If you are a network administrator that manages Windows 2000/2003 servers, you are probably very familiar with the Terminal Services feature for remote management and the different options for connecting to the servers (Web-based Remote Desktop, the Windows XP Remote Desktop client, etc.).

One option for administrators is a free utility from Microsoft called Remote Desktops. This tool allows you to create a list of servers that you can click on and the terminal window appears in the right pane. However, this tool is very limited. It does not allow you, for instance, to order your server list once you have created it. It does not allow you create folders for organizing your servers into groups. There are quite a number of other features that this free tool from Microsoft is lacking.

But wait, there's hope. Enter VisionApp Remote Desktop.

VisionApp Remote Desktop is a freeware utility that lets you do all the things you have wanted to do with Microsoft's Remote Desktops tool but haven't been able to.

VisionApp Remote Desktop allows you to create folders and subfolders to keep your server organized. It uses tabs to keep track of which servers you are connected to. VisionApp Remote Desktop also gives you the ability to create different credentials that can be applied per server or per folder/subfolder. This is very handy if you use certain credentials for a certain subset of servers but different credentials for others. The best part about this tool is that it is absolutely free. I recommend this tool for any serious network administrator that has more than a few servers to manage.
