Best WinComputing products of 2006

The Windows computing market saw many major changes during 2006, as Windows shops prepared to deploy Microsoft Vista and Office 2007, continued to consolidate sprawling server farms and began to move their applications to 64-bit servers. During this period, third-party vendors in the Windows marketplace scrambled to either upgrade their products or announce new ones in response to these trends.
To help you sort through the dizzying pace of new product introductions, the editors of SearchWinComputing.com came up with some nominations for Products of the Year in the categories of server monitoring tools, remote control software and disaster recovery products. We rated the products by:
- Innovation
- Performance
- Ease of integration into environment
- Ease of use and manageability
- Functionality
- Value
We solicited nominations from vendors, scoured the market for our own nominees and recruited a panel of judges composed of independent industry experts, Windows professionals and site contributors. The results are presented within.
We hope the results of this competition will help you optimize your Windows environments. Of course, it is not always easy to say that one product is superior to another without putting it in the context of the Windows shop that will implement it. But if nothing else, the competition made us more savvy about what's out there, and in 2007 we'll be writing about not just the products that won but the worthy products that failed to win awards and yet are no less capable of advancing the state of the art in Windows-based computing.
